Isle of Man CIPD Meeting 10th March 2009

We were delighted to host this meeting at the Sefton. Brenda Roper took us through a case study on how the Credit Crunch could have an impact on Health Work and Well Being. Her practical presentation gave us all food for thought.

It is all too easy to consider Health Work and Wellbeing to be the province of gym membership, annual health check-ups and cycle to works schemes.  But the way we manage our staff has a profound effect on their health and wellbeing, particularly during these difficult economic times.

Lack of information and top-down engagement lead to insecurity and stress related illnesses both of which contribute to high absence levels and reduced motivation.  Knowing you are likely to lose your job is frightening but wondering and worrying has a long term debilitating effect.   At a time when everyone needs to raise their game, poor management has the opposite effect taking the organisation into a downward spiral.  Added to which, managers do not have a monopoly on good ideas, whatever they may think !

Brenda’s talk focused on the HWWB benefits of good communication and consultation both to employees and the organisation.

If you would like a PowerPoint version of Brenda's presentation or just like to chat to us please contact us.
