This month’s newsletter focuses on dispute resolution and the Employment Act 2008, much of which will take effect from 6th April 2009.

The somewhat disliked statutory three-step procedure will be swept away and we take a closer look on the affect that it will have on your policies and procedures both in terms of discipline and grievance.

Of course, disputes do not always lead to formal processes – sometimes they are grey areas but no less disruptive for that.   So, we are also taking a look at what you can do to deal with those personal disputes that get in everyone’s way.

Some of the biggest changes to be implemented on 6th April are in respect of ET claims for wages and redundancy payments – a change which seems to be overlooked in the professional press.  And, we highlight two pieces of recent case law which we think you need to know about.

In our last newsletter we urged you to consider the question “Who cares for HR?”.   Feedback suggests that you are all working your socks off, many with pretty stressful issues to be faced on a daily basis.  The old maxim “a problem shared is a problem halved” continues to hold good, so we continue to help you share in a safe and confidential environment.  We know that meeting others who are facing similar problems, or have resolved similar problems, is hugely beneficial by both minimising wheel re-invention and reducing stress and anxiety which have such a detrimental effect on your wellbeing.  Circle of Peers is a way of looking after yourself. Our Employment Law Update is an excellent way of checking out your knowledge and meeting with your Peers.
