Brenda Roper - Senior Consultant
Brenda has had a varied career in HR which has included 7 years as a Senior Advisor in Acas. During that time she was responsible for providing collective conciliation services to Sussex and for providing consultancy support to organisations with complex employee relations problems. In addition she spent 18 months seconded to provide DTI/Acas interface whilst the Religion or Belief and Sexual Orientation Regulations were developed and enacted. She wrote the Acas guidance to both sets of Regulations and is considered an expert in that particular field, not least because she went on to work closely with a range of religious organisations to help them deal with the issues which arose for them out of the regulations. Although she was not successful, she is proud of being nominated for the Wainwright Trust Award for services to equality.
Prior to joining Acas, Brenda was Head of HR & Training at Coldingley Prison and was a national equality and diversity trainer and complaint investigator for HMPS. She spent a significant amount of her career in and around the NHS including running accelerated development schemes for Finance and HR Managers and providing consultancy support to Trusts and District Health Authorities during the purchase/provider split in the early 1990s.
Brenda is passionate about employee relations issues and in particular about the benefits of good information sharing and consultation between management and employees.
She is taking the lead on our work in the critical area of Health, Work & Wellbeing. Brenda has also written a number of helpful articles.
She is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and has an MBA from the University of Portsmouth Business School. She is also a qualified music teacher!
