Facilitation Skills
Do you know what facilitation is and how to use facilitation skills in the group setting? An organisation undergoing transformational change is dependent on people making the right decisions if it is to achieve its goals. Effective decision making is often not the output of one person; it is achieved through groups and the power of group experience, ability and intellect.
If you play a leading role in the group decision making process, but perhaps feel that you lack confidence in your ability to help the group towards a decision, this one day workshop will introduce you to and enable you to practice using a range of ‘tools’ applicable to your work environment.
Aim:
Focusing on the power of group decision making, delegates will explore the ways of planning, delivering and following up a facilitated event within the context of the real life scenario of their workplace.
Objectives:
By the end of this workshop delegates will be able to:
- Define what facilitation is, what makes it powerful as a method of problem solving and decision making and the various scenarios where it might be used to good effect
- State the key planning requirements of an effective facilitated event, including setting clear objectives and ground rules
- Describe the key approaches of facilitation, where these are appropriate and how to apply them
- Apply a range of techniques to ensure effective facilitation within a defined framework
- Practice effective questioning and listening skills
- Manage conflict within a facilitated session
- Identify any personal obstacles to effective facilitation and state methods of overcoming these
Methods:
This one day workshop will be highly participative and will draw upon delegates’ experience of group problem solving within the workplace. Delegates will be able to practice various techniques of facilitation through role play, with tutor guidance and feedback.
