Training Needs Analysis
It is common to find organisations relying solely on Performance Reviews to identify training needs. The danger is that this builds up expectations in terms of demand led training that is not directly related to the organisation's needs. It can also mean that the needs are identified in a piecemeal manner without any strategic drive. An externally sourced training needs analysis allows for a more strategic view.
We are also used to leaving skills as one of the outcomes of the project. For example three healthcare organisations - an acute, a mental illness and a mental handicapped hospitals were about to lose a central training and development resource. Our role was to work with the senior management teams of each hospital to help them understand how to identify training needs, support them whilst they undertook the task and then work with them to draw up training plans and budgets. A side issue was to promote the change - not an easy task...
